Chattri Group Grant Award
|
The Chattri Royal Visit
His Royal Highness, the Duke of Gloucester, visited Brighton on
19th November 2014 to meet members of the Chattri Memorial Committee and view
the Indian Gate and the Indian Military Hospital Gallery at the Royal Pavilion
as part of First World War Commemorations.
Davinder Dhillon, the Chairman of the Chattri Memorial Group co-hosted the Royal
visit with the Lord Lieutenant, Peter Field. Davinder introduced His Royal
Highness to Jaimal Singh Johal and Kuljit Singh Sahota, grandson and great,great
grandson of Subedar Manta Singh who was cremated at the Chattri in 1915.
Chattri volunteers,Wendy Dhillon, Andrew Marchant, Bindu Vachhani, Bankim
Chandra, Balbir Gohler and Chandrakant Mehta can be seen in the photographs
below being introduced to His Royal Highness.The Mayor of Brighton and Hove,
Cllr Brian Fitch and his wife, together with the World War 1 Commemorative
Committee also met His Royal Highness.
Later the Duke opened a new extension at St Peter and St James Hospice in
Chailey and then visited the Pestalozzi Project for young people in
Seddlescombe.
